Since Paul restored the painting of the 'old man' I have had him do other work for me and have never been disappointed.

Do you have that one (or more) special piece that you are afraid to let out of your sight but, know that it needs restoration? That was me, not that long ago. I have this wonderful painting done in 1934 by my great Uncle, Alexis Szabo. After many years of hanging in homes where smoking was the norm, fireplaces roaring, coal heat and forced hot air heat my 'precious' was sadly showing it's age. It needed to be made shiny again. But the conundrum was, whom to entrust it to? So I began my search for the person I could trust to do the job. I made phone call after phone call starting with The Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, where my Uncle was a student (a very long time ago). I then broadened my search to Museums and low and behold the name of Paul Gratz kept popping up, in my search. Since I wasn't familiar with this man or his work, I was still skeptical but, I steeled myself to give this man and his reputation a chance. I packed up my painting and off I went to Doylestown. I was impressed with the scope of his art 'collection' and the previous restorations he had done. So I left my 'precious' with (out) much trepidation, went home and commenced sitting in my living room looking at the empty space on the wall, waiting for the phone call informing me that my 'precious' painting was once again shiny and new.
Have had the pleasure of dealing with the Gratz Gallery on several occasions, including the restoration of 3 paintings as well as the purchase of several artworks. The staff has always dealt with me in a helpful, professional manner. The Gallery is a strong supporter of the local art community and has been nice enough to provide me with complimentary passes to events at the Michener and PAFA. I can strongly recommended the Gallery and look forward to the upcoming Harrington exhibition.
I cannot begin to tell you, or anyone else, how thrilled I was when I once again saw the painting. I actually cried! It was so beautiful, if you could call a painting of an old man drinking in a bar beautiful, but beautiful it was/is. For the first time in my life I saw details in the painting that I never knew were there - the colors - I could write a poem about the colors! My 'old man' is once again hanging in my living room, where I see him on a daily basis and am thrilled with the outcome.
This is a charming gallery nestled right in the heart of historic Doylestown. The staff is super friendly, and the artwork rivals that on display in the nearby Michener Museum. I brought a family portrait to be restored and could not be happier with the results. I would recommend Gratz Gallery to anyone in need of conservation for fine art, or that is interested in purchasing artwork.
Just to let anyone that reads this yes, I am a real customer (not a relative or paid reviewer) and will be a customer of Paul's forever. I HIGHLY recommend his work for all your precious pieces.
